On the weekend on of 25 September 2010, Dragon Power took part in the wellness festival in the Craft Market in the V&A Waterfront. Part of our exhibition was a demonstration in the amphitheatre. Hundreds of people packed the amphitheatre and surrounding area to get a good view of the Dragon Power Demo team at work.
First up was Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong talking and introducing the MC for the day Aiden Bennetts, former fighter and Top Billing presenter.
Aiden then went on to explain what Muaythai is and who Sifu Quentin is and what Dragon Power is all about. The First Demo, like any Muaythai bout, began with the Wai Kru. It was performed beautifully by two of Dragon Powers top male fighters and instructors: Guy "Kwazi" Lazarus and Kevin "Hurricane" Pheko.
Next up was the padwork demonstration, first up was Kevin again, with Guy holding pads and training Kevin. After that, Sarika Engela; one of SA's Top Female Fighters and 2x National Champion, gave it a go on pads to show what female fighters can do. Just in case the crowd were thinking that Sarika was the only female, Madeleine "Mad X" Ross had her turn on pads with Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong. Mads showed strength that would dominate most male competitors, never mind her female peers.
After the training came sparring, Guy X5 SA Champion and Kevin X3 SA Champion came to show their skills and experience in the art of Muaythai. Wearing protective gear as one should when sparring, Guy & Kevin displayed use of all the 8 limbs in Muaythai.
Next up was Ruan "Fangzz" Potts and Edmundo Xisto, displaying MMA and its many varying techniques and situations. From punching and kicking to armbars, choke holds and ankle locks, they showed why MMA is the fastest growing sport worldwide.
After the entertaining MMA display, Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong and Marlon Rosen performed some self defence manoeuvres. Marlon would attack Sifu Quentin with a variety of scenarios that could possibly happen on the street, even if the would be assailant was armed with a knife or gun.
Lastly was the part that always amazes a crowd into a frenzy of applause. First up was Marlon Rosen who broke two wooden boards with a very swift elbow. Next was  Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong who started off by using his head to break a board. And then proceeded to hold  a chopstick against his throat and his brother Sibak Kru Winston "Tiger" Chong then kicked the chopstick so that it splintered and broke, amazingly without any damage to Sifu Quentin's throat. Lastly was Sibak Winstons turn. He started off with a three hit combo breaking three different boards with punches and spinning elbows. He then went on to roundhouse kick through three wooden polls tide together in a spectacular finish.
At the end, the entire team came onto stage to bow and thank everyone for their support. They then proceeded to hand out lanyards and take photos with fans and crowd members.
Once again, a big thank you to all those that came and supported, it is always greatly appreciated.
