On Saturday 5 March 2011 the first Dragon Power Promotions Tournament of the year was successfully held. The event was called UMF "UNDERGROUND" Muaythai & MMA Fight Night. There were top fighters from around the Western Cape coming from Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre, Panther and Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies. We would like to congratulate all the fighters that took part, especially the Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA &Fitness Centre fighters on their dominance over their competition.

Letho Sentile walking to the ring
It was both fighters first time in the ring, but neither showed any nerves. The 1st round was pretty even with both fighters giving their all. However early on in the 2nd round Letho proved to have too much power for his opponent and the fight was ended early by the referee.

Unathi Mlanjeni performing Wai Kru
This was also a 1st time fight for both boys from the Dragon Power Development Team program. Straight from the first bell Unathi Mlanjeni came out full steam ahead. Completely dominating his opponent Anele Jikumlambo, Unathi scored three standing 8 counts against Anele and thus forcing the referee Marlon Rosen to call the fight a TKO.

Jullian Adams (XKT) VS Marcel Eksteen (Dragon Power)
Next up was Marcel Eksteen and Julian Adams. This was Marcel's first fight where as Julian had a few amatuer fights previously. They started off at a high pace returning strikes evenly. As the fight progressed, Marcle's superior conditioning and Muaythai technique proved to strong for hsi opponent Julian and won the fight by TKO in the third round.

Razar Calvert (XKT) VS Lucian Birks (Dragon Power)
Next up was Light middleweights Lucian Birks and Razar Calvert. Both fighters came out strong from the start and maintaned their strength and stamina till the final bell. This was a well matched fight, with Lucian Birks from Dragon Power taking the unanimous points decision due to his superior Muaythai technique and aggression.

Jarred "Rothwieler" Rothwell (Dragon Power) VS Sibosisu "The Monster" Mdoko (Panther)
Next was a middleweight bout between Jarred Rothwell and Sibosisu Mdoko, this too was a well matched fight with both fighters giving thier all till the final bell. This was Jarred's first fight since returning from last years IFMA World Championships and was out to prove he is the best in South Africa. Jarred controlled the fight with his range, throwing large roundhouses and avoiding Sibosisu's boxing. Eventually the fight wen to a judges decision, which was a unanimous points decsion for Jarred Rothwell.

Themba Gweva (Panther) Vs Marcel "Little Hammer" Teniers (Dragon Power
Next up was the much anticipated MMA fight between Marcel "Little Hammer" Teniers (Dragon Power) & Themba Gweva (Panther). This was Marcel's first MMA fight, having recently won Gold at GASS 3. They started on their feet exchanging blows and ended up in a clinch. Marcel then went for the takedown when Themba transitioned on top. Marcel kept his composure to work for a transition get on top of Themba. From here Marcel worked a little Ground and Pound to eventually work into side control and choke Themba out with an Exekial Choke. Keep your eyes on Marcel as he climbs the MMA ranks in South Africa.

Jean De La Quera (Panther) VS Kevin "Hurricane" Pheko (Dragon Power)
After a short speech by Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong it was time for the next fight. Fighting without padding was Kevin "Hurricane" Pheko and Jean De La Quera. The fight started off a little bit slower than their less exerienced peers. However they made up for it with their technique and power. The 1st round won by Kevin by showing his superior grappling ability by dumping Jean several times. With the start of the 2nd round the fighters picked up their pace and aggression. Using all of their 8 weapons in their arsenal. towards the end of the 2nd round Kevin was looking the far stronger fighter. During the 3rd round Kevin was using his superior strength and grappling abilities and kneed Jean in the chest and stomach. Jean received a count from the referee, but was not able to continue, and thus earning Kevin the KO Victory.

Dillan Jantjies (XKT) VS Justin Sham (Dragon Power)
Lastly was a Light Middleweight bout between Justin Sham and Dillon Jantjies. Justin controlled the entire fight from start to finish using all of his weapons. Justin proved too strong for his opponent and took the unanimous points decision.
