The Grand Arena, GrandWest, sold out made for the perfect venue to host the International UMF Muaythai & Dragon Legends MMA "YEAR OF THE DRAGON" Fight Night & Launch of the Youth Leadership Training Programme (YLTP). The Event was hosted by The Honorable, The Deputy Minister of International Relations Mr. Marius Fransman, His Excellency , The Ambassador designate to Kazakhstan Mr Shirish Soni, Mr Russel Christopher - Representative of the International Association of Human Values & Youth Leadership Training Program & Sifu Kru Quentin 'Dragon' Chong.  The fights were fast and action packed, with 2 DL MMA fights and 8 UMF Muaythai Fights on the bill. We were privileged to have special guests that attended in the likes of: IFMA Vice-President - Gary Trappler, Manop Masiwen (Quentin Chong's teacher, head trainer of WMC Head Camp & Head trainer of 'The Challenger Muaythai'), the former president of Malawi, Chief Director of Sports Western Cape Lyndon Bouah, former ministers, Hollywood stars and many other celebrities.
The doors opened at 6:00pm to the sounds of the Amy Biehl dancers and marimba players with the official start to the event beginning at 7:00pm with The Sounds of Africa, Dragon Power's Youth Leadership Training Programme Drummers.
Fight 1: Junior Muaythai Bantamweight -  Pumo Khoza (Durban) defeated Slimamkele 'Burger' Mpongobe (Cape Town) by a unanimous points decision.
Fight 2: Senior Muaythai Light Heavyweight -  Akhona Mngqibisa (Cape Town) defeated Nicholas McCreath (Cape Town) by unanimous points decision.
Fight 3: Senior Muaythai Bantamweight - Guy 'Kwazi' Lazarus (Cape Town) defeated Mandla 'Shosha' Gogo (Durban) by unanimous points decision.
The 'Sounds of Africa' then took to the stage for the second time and gave an electrifying performance to welcome the world to fight night via live online streaming on Zoopy.com/umf. The crowd was then entertained by the very moving launch video of the Muaythai Against Drugs documentary.
Fight 4: Junior Muaythai Pinweight - South African MAD Title Belt - Mkhululi 'MP3' Mlanjeni (Cape Town) defeats Mlu Khoza (Durban) by KO in the 1st round.

Fight 6: MMA Lightweight - Bonga 'Mkomo' Hadebe (Durban) defeated Kevin Harwood (Cape Town) by TKO 1st round.
Fight 7: Muaythai  Light Middleweight -  Cee 'Croco-Croco' Khuboni (Durban) defeated Zahir Parker (Cape Town) by KO 2nd Round.

The Dragon Power International Community Service award was given to: Mr. Russel Christopher, representative for the YLTP , The honourable the Deputy Minister of International Relations Mr Marius Fransman, His Excellency the Ambassador designate to Kazakhstan Mr Shirish Soni, Sifu Kru Quentin 'Dragon' Chong.
Fight 8: Female Muaythai Featherweight - Rushda Mallick (Cape Town) defeated Storm 'Force' Brown (Cape Town) by unanimous points decision.
The Ubuntu B-boys gave a world class performance to keep the crowds cheering and on the edge of their seats, and a promo video for the upcoming UMF Muaythai & Dragon Legends MMA Fight Night in March 2012.
Fight 9: MMA Professional Middleweight -  Sihle 'Somnandi' Khuboni (Durban) defeated Marcel 'Little Hammer' Teniers (Cape Town) TKO in the 3rd round.
The Muaythai Against Drugs Title Belt Fight began with the solemnity and international protocol with the crowds standing to attention while the national anthems of Thailand and South Africa were played.
Fight 10: Muaythai Professional Middleweight - International MAD Title Belt  WMC-   Jarred 'Rothwieler' Rothwell (Dragon Power, Cape Town, South Africa) defeated Lek Paijaiya (WMC Gym, Koh Samui, Thailand) by unanimous points decision.

Dragon Power recently hosted a Fundraising Dinner and Muaythai and MMA Fight night at Dragon Power Muaythai/MMA and Fitness centre to help raise money for the SA Muaythai Team to go to the World Champs in Uzbekistan and represent South Africa.
The South African Muaythai Team were all handed their official SA Muaythai Colours by Tanit Phoenix.
We would like to thank everyone for attending the Event that has just passed and for all your generous donations you have made and for giving them the opportunity to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. Allowing them to come back to South Africa with a better knowledge of competing and instructing which we would in turn give back to and develop Muaythai Against Drugs in South Africa. This would help us in our combat against Tik and getting more kids off the street and living a healthy and drug free life.
This year the South African Amateur Muaythai Team, consisting of 9 athletes, coaches and managers will be competing in the IFMA World Muaythai Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 19 September 2011 - 28 September 2011.

The Handing out of SA Muaythai Colours Fundraising Dinner & UMF Muaythai & DL MMA Fight Night was filled with auctions and Raffles; it was great to see so many people taking part in it. There was an electrical anticipation in the air as the time grew near to get started, and no fans left the evening disappointed. The venue Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre was sold out to capacity crowd wanting to see who would rise to the occasion.

Fight 1 consisted of a Muaythai Middleweight fight - Sibusiso "The Monster" Mdoko (Panther) defeated Dirkie Klopper (Mile High Kickboxing) by TKO in the 3rd round.
Fight 2 Consisted of a MMA Cruiserweight fight - Marcel 'Little Hammer' Teniers (Dragon Power) defeated Alwyn "Herulaas" Landman (Panther) by Points.
Fight 3 Consisted of a Muaythai Light Middleweight Fight - Romano "Pitbull" Birks (Dragon Power) defeated Christiaan Kidson (Mile High Kickboxing) by points
Fight 4 Consisted of a Muaythai Super Heavy Weight Fight - Dumani Mtya (Dragon Power) defeated Roby Streak (Mile High kickboxing) by TKO in the 2nd round

We would like to thank everyone for attending the Event that has just passed and for all your generous donations you have made and for giving them the opportunity to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. Allowing them to come back to South Africa with a better knowledge of competing and instructing which we would in turn give back to and develop Muaythai Against Drugs in South Africa. This would help us in our combat against Tik and getting more kids off the street and living a healthy and drug free life.

 

This year the South African Amateur Muaythai Team, consisting of 9 athletes, coaches and managers will be competing in the IFMA World Muaythai Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 19 September 2011 - 28 September 2011.

The Handing out of SA Muaythai Colours Fundraising Dinner & UMF Muaythai & DL MMA Fight Night was filled with auctions and Raffles; it was great to see so many people taking part in it. There was an electrical anticipation in the air as the time grew near to get started, and no fans left the evening disappointed. The venue Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre was sold out to capacity crowd wanting to see who would rise to the occasion.

Fight 1 consisted of a Muaythai Middleweight fight - Sibusiso "The Monster" Mdoko (Panther) defeated Dirkie Klopper (Mile High Kickboxing) by TKO in the 3rd round.

Fight 2 Consisted of a MMA Cruiserweight fight - Marcel 'Little Hammer' Teniers (Dragon Power) defeated Alwyn "Herulaas" Landman (Panther) by Points.

 

Fight 3 Consisted of a Muaythai Light Middleweight Fight - Romano "Pitbull" Birks (Dragon Power) defeated Christiaan Kidson (Mile High Kickboxing) by points

On the 19th November 2010, an in house fight night tournament was organized here at Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness centre. This was "UNDERGROUND" Muaythai & MMA Fight Night. The gym was filled to capacity with friends and family of the fighters as well as Dragon Power members that were there to train. The event was not publicized as it was meant to be kept as a small gathering. Many in attendance said that these were some of the best fights they have seen a long time. Three Muaythai and three MMA fights were scheduled for the evening and promised action from start to end.

The 15th October 2010, an in house fight night tournament was organized here at Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness centre. This was our very first one at the new premises and we are looking to host them on a regular basis. The gym was fillled over 200 friends and family members, as well as Dragon Power Members that were there for their usual Friday open class. A short break was filled with an encouraging pre-recorded video of Gary Trappler (Vice president of IFMA), Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong and Madeleine Ross. They were not able to attend this event due to partaking in another event no less important, the inaugural 2010 Sport Accord Combat Games in Beijing where they were accompanied by a special guest, South Africa's Sports Minister Mr Stophile.

Fight 6: Light Middleweight Muaythai Final - Cee Khuboni (KZN) defeated Sobuntu Nxaci (WP) by 3rd round TKO.

 

Fight 7: Middleweight Muaythai Final - Justin Sham (WP) defeated beauron Bailey (Boland) by TKO in the 2nd round.

 

Another break from all the intensities gave the Ubuntu Breakdancers the opportunity to show off their unmatched skills and talents. As they enthralled the crowd the last leg of the fighting was being prepared in the locker rooms…

Summary of the event:


Grandwest was the setting for the South African amateur Muaythai fight night on the 6th June 2009. Hosted by Cheftrapps and Dragon Power promotions, five provinces from around South Africa, including Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal, The Free State, Eastern and Western Province, all converged on the Grandwest Arena with their best fighters for the South African muaythai nationals. With thirteen fights scheduled the night was set for absolute awesomeness. All was at stake with the winners of each Muaythai division going to represent South Africa in Bangkok, Thailand in this years world championships held in honour of His Majesty the king of Thailand's 82nd birthday.

The night hit off with Victor Tidte of Gauteng knocking out his opponent in the second round in the lightweight division, showing skill and determination he found himself fighting a second bout against the fresh Ryan Berkowitz of Western Province. Experience was the tool Ryan used in order to ensure a points victory against a opponent that, "just wouldn't stay down."

Funda Tshabalala of Western Province dispatched his first opponent, Kwazulu Natal's Dumisani Nkonyana in the third round, technically knocking him out and earning himself a place in the nights seventh fight against the Eastern Cape's Niel Van Riet, however the flair of Funda outclassed his opponent, even though it was his second fight of the evening, technically knocking him out and rightfully earning him the pride of green and gold in the Light Welterweight division.

A short break was kept interesting by the presence of beatboxer, Diabolique, showing some mad vocal skills and getting the crowds heads bobbing to the beat.

By the tenth fight of the evening things had really heated up, and the middleweight division was contested by Gautengs Morne Tesner versus Western Provinces Zaphone Geldenhuys.
From the first bell Zaphone took no prisoners, connecting Morne's head with his knee again and again, until early in the second round Morne could take no more with his body lying flat on the canvas and Zaphone's hands held firm in the air.

The only female fight of the evening found Western Provinces Madeleine Ross, fresh from her second place in the Arafura Games, fighting against Eastern Cape's Rebecca Beetham. Rebecca fought passionately but was outclassed by the talented and fierce Madeleine, who sealed victory in the second round by Rebecca's corner throwing the towel in.

During a little break from all the awesomeness, the Ubuntu breakdancers enthralled the crowds with their amazing agility and talent. Sifu Kru Quentin Chong followed it up with thankfull words of appreciation for all the fighters involved and for the crowd making such an event happen.
