We would like to wish all the Dragon Power Team fighters for coming out on top at the recent Abu Dhabi African Championships Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament. We would liek to congratulate all the competitiors and a special congratulations to Marcel "Little Hammer" Tieners who won gold in both his division and the Ultimate NO-Gi Divisions. Marcel has been on quite a roll recently having won in the this and the tournament that happened in P.E as well as various other grappling tournaments.

Marcel will be fighting in The International UMF Muaythai & DL MMA "YEAR OF THE DRAGON" Fight Night on 10 March 2012 at Grand Arena, GRand West Casino. If all goes well for him, he will be jettign off to Las Vegas to fight and fly the South African Flag hi.

After many months of preparation between the Thai Government, National Culture Commission, The World Muaythai Council (under directive of the Royal Thai Government) Amateur Muaythai Association Thailand (under Royal Patronage) and International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (recognised by SportAccord); the inauguration ceremony was held today.

The day honored Pra Chao Sun Petch IIX (Tiger King) and every year, Feb 6th will be a worldwide celebration.

The event was chaired by Sukumon Kunpluem, the Minister for Culture, and Co-Chaired by General Chetta Thanajaro, the President of the WMC.
Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan represented the Amateur MTAT and IFMA, and Stephan Fox, WMC VP and IFMA General Secretary, was invited to represent the international muaythai community. All Thai masters were present for the Krob Khru Ceremony, where the students paid homage to their teachers.

The event opened with the inauguration and paid homage to H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej. After all the 6 different muaythai styles - Muay Lopburi, Muay Chaiya, Muay Tah Sao, Muay Pak Klang, Muay Korad, Muay Palasueksa; all the masters performed their Wai Khru styles, which was the first time in a long time in Thailand.

6 February 2013 will be World Muaythai Day, and on this date the National Culture Commission, AMTAT, WMC and IFMA will invite the world to come to Thailand and be part of this joyous occasion.

The last time UMF & DL MMA entered Grand Arena GrandWest was to celebrate the finale fight of Mnet Action's reality hit series Way of The Warrior, where the winner of the fight was anointed the title of being the ultimate African warrior. Now, UMF Muaythai & DL MMA Fight Night will take on a whole new meaning on 10th March 2012 as the Dragons raise the bar and continue to go down in history by stepping back into the 5000 seat arena stand face-to-face with international competitors and the International WMC 'MAD' title belt - only this time with more experience, more power, and a whole lot of heart.

Being the first tournament of the year and held in one of the most grandeur venues in the heart of Africa, Cape Town residents will have their fight cards filled as this world-class combat is destined to set the tone for the rest of the year. Fresh out of Asia after 2011's IFMA World Muaythai Championship in Uzbekistan, Jarred Rothwell will face Thailand for the main event in a 5 round bout for the International WMC 'Muaythai Against Drugs' (MAD) title belt. Mkhululi 'MP3' Mlanjeni, from the 'Muaythai Against Drugs' development program for the underprivileged children, will compete for the number one spot as he continues towards his goal of entering his second IFMA World Muaythai Championships (this time in Russia in late September this year) . His fighting journey thus far has been documented and compiled into a TV documentary soon to be released.

Also included in the night will be SA's top Pro MMA fights which are guaranteed to provide entertainment for everyone!

It was great to have the Amy Biehl Dragon Power Development kids back at training here at Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre. two of the boys will be competing in the upcoming International UMF Muaythai & DL MMA "Year of the Dragon" Fight Night at Grand Arena, Grand West on 10 march 2012. The kids have had a holiday and rested up well and ready to get back into thier training full steam ahead.

The boys competing will be Mkhululi "MP3" Mlanjeni, who represented South Africa at the IFMA World Muaythai Championships 2011 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Akhona Mngqibisa who will be having his first fight.

Friday 27th saw the launch of the Dragon Power Submission League here at Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre.

We also had Penny Thomas, South African born 4 x Jiu Jitsu World Champ & ADCC Submission Wrestling Champ and Kudrt George from Renzo Gracie Cape Town refereeing the tournament.

The league is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu styled grappling tournament following the IBJJ rules. This league is going to build up to being the biggest and most competed at Grappling tournament in South Africa, so whatch this space for details.
